It was a fun few days at the end of October for some members of the Remote Equipment team as we took our bags to a location where our bags seemed designed to thrive: New York City.

We were among about 20 other brands at Gotham Gets in Gear, a one-day event in midtown Manhattan. Designed for some of the most significant and relevant media outlets to speed-date outdoor companies and see the latest and greatest in gear, the event allowed us to show our bags alongside offerings from other companies. Our display table was nestled near hiking boots, electric bikes, sportswear, ski gloves, and pocket knives.

This was the second consecutive year we've participated in the Gotham Gets in Gear event, but it was the first time we've had entirely new product to showcase to the media; it was our first chance to talk to new folks about the BRAVO 18, the latest bag to the Remote Equipment product line.

The event aims to provide NYC-based media with one-stop shopping for gear-based story ideas. And that it's held just in time for the gift-guide season is a huge bonus. We also saw cool gear from cool brands, but getting our bags in front of the media was the most fun.

Here are a few things that became clear through the conversations with representatives from titles such as People, Men's Journal, C-NET, and Good Housekeeping:

  • Remote Equipment bags appeal equally to those who are outdoorsy and those who live decidedly urban lifestyles. That is, people appreciated that our bags could handle technical carry duties and everyday carry assignments.
  • The Birch color of the BRAVO 18 was popular. Even though it won't hide the dirt, adding real-life character to the bags was appealing — the "patina of life," as one editor type quipped.
  • Speaking of the Birch BRAVO, we wonder, since that bag looks like a canvas, would it be possible to have some custom artwork on there? Our product development guy seems to think so…
  • The duffel zip feature on the CHARLIE 25 is loved by virtually everybody who sees it.
  • People appreciate the use of the ECOPAK fabric in many of our bags, and those industry insiders who know the story of this recycled material are big fans of it.

As of today, we're pretty sure we'll have plenty to talk about at the Gotham Gets in Gear show in the fall of 2025 – if not sooner. While it's always fun to show new gear to the media, it's just as rewarding to roll it out to our growing legion of fans.

As they say, watch this space.
