The bag that started it all, the ALPHA 31 is purposefully built for a wide range of adventures, both big and small. With expandable capacity, multiple lash points, external fast-access pockets, and three access points to the main compartment, it's a hardy pack with a unique blend of attributes that enables independence and self-reliance.
Using 100-percent recycled ECOPAK™ fabrics from Challenge Outdoor allows the ALPHA 31 to be lightweight, durable, waterproof, and eco-friendly. The updated roll top includes a triple-fold to lock out elements, and all exterior panels feature water-resistant rain flaps and YKK® Aquaguard® zippers. When you need extra space, the roll top increases the ALPHA's capacity by five liters. Inside the main body, there's a 15" padded laptop sleeve and four additional pockets to securely hold important gear.
The ergonomic shoulder straps feature dual-density foam and a back panel designed to conform to your shoulders and chest. Every touchpoint the ALPHA 31 has with your body improves airflow and comfort.
Functions & Features
DUAL ACCESS BODY
Primary access and expandability are provided by the roll top. A second front access panel provides access to items lower in the bag or can become the primary access when used for light to medium loads.
ECOPAK: DURABLE, ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY, AND WATERPROOF
From the demanding world of sailing and kiteboarding comes Challenge Outdoor ECOPAK fabric. Made of abrasion-resistant 100 percent recycled polyester, ECOPAK absorbs 80 percent less moisture and has better UV resistance and color retention than traditional laminated nylon.
WEATHERPROOF
All Challenge Outdoor ECOPAK fabrics used in the ALPHA 31 have a waterproof rating of 200+ psi, meaning it's a bag equipped to keep what's inside dry in rain, snow, bogs, marshes, and faraway jungles. All openings employ rain flaps or weather-resistant YKK Aquaguard® zippers.
ITW Nexus™, Duraflex® & NIFCO® HARDWARE
ITW is one of the original developers of the modern sr buckle. Their hardware is trusted the world over and used on the ALPHA 31 for its quality and dependability.
FLEXIBLE SIZE
The ALPHA 31 features a roll top that can expand up to 36 liters to accommodate large loads. When lightly loaded, the compression straps can be pulled in and top rolled down to minimize the bag’s bulk.
HYDRATION-READY
ALPHA 31 is equipped with a hydration loop, tube port and tethers, ready to hold up to a 3 liter bladder.
DUAL ACCESS LAPTOP SLEEVE + TABLET SLEEVE
Laptop sleeve can hold up to 16” laptop. Device can be loaded from exterior side access or from the interior pocket.
NIGHT VISIBILITY
Removable reflective ties provide night visibility while a loop on the bag base is ready to hold a bike light.
HIGH VISIBILITY INTERIOR
For maximum interior visibility, the ALPHA 31 employs laminated fabrics with white backings for a bright and visible interior.
REMOVABLE FRAME SHEET
A .060” high density polyethylene frame sheet provides structure and stability to the bag body. To decrease weight or increase flexibility, frame sheet is removable.
COMFORT AND BREATHABILITY
Back panel and shoulder straps use a low-abrasion woven for comfort and durability.
TOOL HOLDERS
Tool loops and reflective bungee cords allow tethering of trekking poles, helmets or tools.

good pack but has flawsI like the pack it fits everything I need almost. The water bottle holders on both side SUCK they are very very tight and would hold maybe a plastic water bottle or a soda can comfortably. Even a tiny 20 oz titanium water filter I have barely crams into the space and a larger water bottle forget about it. I have an having to buy an external water bottle holder to clip on or wear a cross strap water bottle holder across my chest just to have water with me. No returns on the bag unfortunately otherwise this would have warranted a return. Holding water and keeping it separate from my laptop is an imperative feature for a bag

An excellent all-round pack
I actually picked up an Alpha 31 NWT off of Vinted of all places. I've used quite a bit for travel, as my EDC work bag, and for some hiking. It's done well for everything. Is it as comfortable as a dedicated hiking pack? No. Is it as convenient as a dedicated travel bag?.No. Good as a work-specific bag? No.
But it is a truly excellent jack-of-all-trades, quiver-of-one. It would be the pack I kept if I had to get rid of all the others.
It works very well for pretty much anything I've done with it so far.

Cool and functional bag
I have owned the alpha for over a year now and have used it from everything from edc, minimal travel, grocery hauler and it does not disappoint. This is probably my favorite bag i own as it does so much and with the org pouches is unstoppable. I have one org pouch attached to the side and use it as a small sling when traveling about. This is also the only bag that i own that is genuinely comfortable to carry when loaded up. Most bags make my lower back hurt after a couple hours of walking, but not this bag. My only gripe is the laptop compartment and zipper. If you have the bag loaded, the zipper is very hard to close and it looks like it’s under a lot of stress especially with thicker

Grails are meant to be foundUsed and abused.but still is a pack id take with me anywhere.and keep for a long time! Now i just want to find the online manual to print out and make my set complete!!! Added my own mods to this and its now better than ever!
